Today on the blog it is a little bit of a hodgepodge! I want to share a few of my favorite winter read alouds with you PLUS I have a free snowman fraction activity I would like to share with you!
When I was a little girl I was obsessed with the Little House on the Prairie books (and television series). As a teacher, The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a favorite read aloud (even though it takes a looooong time to read).
I was very excited when I discovered the My First Little House Books series that were so appropriate for my third grade readers. I love that these picture books can be shared as read alouds to build student interest in the characters and the series.
Two of my winter favorites are…
Winter Days in the Big Woods adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder
Dance at Grandpa’s adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder
Winter Days in the Big Woods is especially terrific for comparing how winter was then with how winter is now.
Discussion Ideas for Comparing:
preparing for winter
playing in winter
winter chores (or chores in general)
types of toys
entertainment
*There is also a Little House on the Prairie beginning chapter book series available.
Now for the SNOWMAN fraction activity! This activity would work well as an introduction to fractions OR as a review. Your students will love the snowman theme!
