How to Catch a Snowman Book Recommendation

I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday season! January is such a nice time for a re-set with the start of a new year. This is so true in the classroom as well- it is the perfect time to revisit procedures and implement any new plans/ideas for the remainder of the school year.

Today I want to share another one of Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton’s How to Catch… books. Of course- this is the perfect time for How to Catch a Snowman!

I LOVE all things snow! This book and writing activity would be perfect to tuck away and pull out on a snowy day, or when a big snowfall is forecasted. Your kids will love it!

This book is chock full of rhyming words and that is something students are always sure to point out.

The illustrations in this series of books are very appealing and worthy of a pause to let students take a long look. I also think it is important to point out how the author emphasizes important words in the text by using fun fonts and colors- it makes the story that much more engaging.

I have created a writing activity that you could use with this book- you can grab it for FREE here…

How to Catch a Snowman Writing Activity

For this writing activity students will color the full moon and the enchanted snow star (you could even allow them to GLITTER the snow star), draw and color a snow person, and then write a snowman story. You could ask them to write a snowman escape story, a snowman adventure story, or really any snowman that has come to life story!

If you love STEM activities- this book lends itself perfectly to pulling out your STEM supplies and letting students create snowman traps.

If you are a third grade teacher looking for winter activities- you might want to take a peek at these…

Happy Winter! Hope your students love How to Catch a Snowman!
Talk to you next week!
