What do you do to promote conservation and the care of our environment?
A great start is to educate our students about the simple things they can start doing today to make conservation a way of life!
I want to share some ideas for teaching these concepts in your classroom- not just on Earth Day, but every day!
Earth Day Read Alouds for Your Third Grade Classroom

Arthur Turns Green by Marc Brown
That lovable aardvark is at it again in this cute book! Arthur and his pals receive a school assignment to find ways to make our planet better. The book is filled with ways to take care of the planet.
Miss Fox’s Class Goes Green by Eileen Spinelli
In this book Miss Fox encourages her class to find ways to go green. There are lots of tips for kids- things they can start doing today to make a difference.
We are Extremely Very Good Recyclers by Lauren Child
Lauren Child really focuses on recycling and what can be done with recycled materials in this book.
The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
This is a beautifully illustrated book about a little boy who cultivates a garden in the most unlikely of places.
Molly’s Organic Farm by Carol L. Manor and Trina L. Hunner
This story is based on a true story of a little homeless cat named Molly. This is one of my favorites! It follows what happens in a garden for a whole year and is filled with farming tips. And the ending is pretty special, too! Be sure to read about the real Molly at the end of the book.
Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth by Mary McKenna Siddals
This book describes the process of composting and items that can be composted. It is written in poem format.
Rachel Carson and Her Book That Changed the World by Laurie Lawlor
A great biography of Rachel Carson, which tells the story of a woman who dedicated her life to science and writing. She was instrumental in exposing the dangers of the chemical industry in her book The Silent Spring.
In the Garden with Dr. Carver by Susan Grigsby
This book tells a story about George Washington Carver, the famous plant scientist. This is a beautifully illustrated book and one of my favorites.
